Call out to remember the good old days at 1970's Laois school reunion

Laois classmates from the former St Mary’s College Mountmellick now Mountmellick Community School are hosting a school reunion to catch up and recall fond memories from days gone by.

A committee has been formed to locate people who attended the Mountmellick school from 1971 to 1976 (inter and leaving cert), boarding and day pupils.

The committee is trying to spread the word far and wide as people travelled from all over to attend the school at the time.

Patsy Hennessy told the Leinster Express the idea came about when she met a school friend in a supermarket.

The two got chatting about having a reunion and plans were put in motion to contact as many people as possible to attend the meetup and get some class photos together after almost half a century.

“It took 43 years to organise! I had a chat with a girl I went to school with in Tesco one day doing the shopping and we talked a bit about it and we divided it up,” she said.

A committee has been formed to pull off the event.

The committee members include Bernie Keating, Declan O’Loughlin, Elizabeth Lalor, Marian Ryan, Lucy White and Johnny White as well as Patsy Hennessy.

The reunion will take place on April 6 at 8.00 pm in O’Loughlins Hotel, Portlaoise.

Anyone interested in going is asked to please contact the committee at 087 7639845 with your name and number. Further details to follow.
