Laois Local Election Q & A: 'Improving roads and community facilities'

Fine Gael's Conor Bergin shares his priorities ahead of polling day on June 7

Laois Local Election Q & A: 'Improving roads and community facilities'

Conor Bergin, Fine Gael

What are your priorities?

Since I was elected in 2019, my main priorities have included securing funding to resurface more rural roads in my area, improve community facilities such as playgrounds, protecting rural housing and assisting with housing grants for older people and people with disabilities.

What is the biggest issue facing your area?

There are many issues facing my area, some of which are perhaps localised to a particular road or estate. However, in broad terms the issues which I am hearing most frequently on the doors are rural roads and issues facing the agricultural sector.

Why do you think you would make a good County Councillor?

I have worked hard during my term as a Councillor to represent the needs of my area, keep in touch with people and to be accessible. I live in the area which I represent and I want to live there for the rest of my life. I want to see good roads, good community facilities and a good quality of life in my area and that is why I got into politics.

Conor Bergin is a candidate in the Borris-in-Ossory Mountmellick Municipal District. In the lead up to polling day on June 7 we will be featuring profiles on all 47 candidates vying for a seat on Laois County Council.
