Caroline Dwane Stanley of Sinn Féin is contesting in the Portlaoise Municipal District
What are your priorities?
I want to see more and better affordable houses to purchase at affordable prices and delivery of more cost rental homes, a scheme I was the first councillor to raise. More social housing with a mixed tenure is also needed.
A primary Care centre for Portlaoise, our population has seen the fastest growth outside Dublin, this would take pressure off Portlaoise hospital A&E.
The upgrade of the Mountmellick Road with roundabouts at Ballyfin Road, Dunnes Stores, and Harpers Lane and cycle ways.
A multi-purpose sports complex for the county.
I want to see a school built for Coláiste Dhún Masc / Dunamase College as soon as possible .
Last, but by no means the least, to continue to play an active roll in bringing about Irish unity, this will only be achieved with a Sinn Féin Government.
What is the biggest issue facing your area?
By far housing is the biggest issue facing the community for over the last 10 years and continues to be the greatest need. Two generations locked out of home ownership due to successive governments of FF and FG failed policies. A change of Government is badly needed to address these issues, so I would encourage people to vote for change both at local and national level, vote Sinn Féin.
Why do you think you would make a good County Councillor?
I believe I have already been tried and tested, I am a full-time councillor now for 10 years, I work very hard to represent the people who elect me. I take my position very seriously, I have been a strong voice on the council, I believe I have a good track record of work at local level. and hopefully the public will continue to put there trust and confidence in me by electing me again to Laois County Council to continue that work.
