Dom Dunne running for the second time in Portlaoise this time as an independent candidate.
What are your priorities?
1. Housing for all.
2. Sports complex to house a basketball court, running track and many more indoor sports facilities on a new green field site with parking.
2. Removal of court house from Main Street to a site that has already been purchased over two years ago.
3. Regeneration projects in our Rural towns and villages.
What is the biggest issue facing my area?
Housing is by far the biggest issue. A new couple starting out with two good jobs can’t get a mortgage. Young adults in their twenties and thirties including my own kids living at home with their parents because they can’t afford to rent or buy a house.
Since I started my canvassing campaign the amount of houses that I have seen sitting idle or boarded up is disgraceful.
How are these houses idle when so many people are looking for houses.
Why do you think you would make a good councillor?
I believe I would make a good councillor because I have been working involved in voluntary and community works for the past 20 years.
I am a community activist and was heavily involved in the Hospital Action Committee that was successful in securing the hospital’s future.
I believe it’s time for change in local politics with a new voice that will speak up for the people of my constituency.
Dom Dunne is a candidate in the Portlaoise Municipal District where seven councillors will be elected. In the lead up to polling day on June 7 we will be featuring profiles on all 47 candidates vying for a seat on Laois County Council.
