Laois Local Election Q & A: Portlaoise pledge to advocate for working people

Catherine Fitzgerald, Fianna Fáil, shares her priorities ahead of polling day on June 7

local elections laois

Catherine Fitzgerald has served as a councillor in Laois since 1999.

What are your priorities?
Provide affordable housing by making it more financially achievable for those working within bracket of 35k-65k.
The financial demands of the current scheme make it unattainable for too many.
Develop a multi-purpose sports complex to cater for the demands of the current / future needs of our sporting organisations.
Campaign for greater awareness and measures to improve road safety in the Portlaoise urban/rural electoral area.

What is the biggest issue facing your area?
The biggest issue is undoubtedly the issue of housing. It effects the very fabric of our society.
As a local councillor, I see every day the disappointment, frustration and at time unfairness in the system.
If re-elected, it is my intention to advocate for affordable housing for working people and families.

Why do you think you would make a good County Councillor?
I have a proven track record of working tirelessly for our community.
I have represented countless individuals and groups over a range of issues across all departments in Laois County Council.
I have always made myself freely available to represent people from all sections of society and I will continue to do so if re-elected.

Catherine Fitzgerald is a candidate in the Portlaoise Municipal District where seven councillors will be elected. In the lead-up to polling day on June 7 we will be featuring profiles on all 47 candidates vying for a seat on Laois County Council.
