As part of their General Education Task the 5th year Leaving Cert Applied at Coláiste Phobal Roscré class decided to create and design a floor marquetry of the school crest.
The class spent more than 200 hours working on this task. They had to work with a very tough material called marmoleum (industrial lino).
They measured out the design first on paper and then timber templates, carefully cut out all the pieces and then put them back together like a jigsaw on the prepared floor.
It was very hard work but this excellent group of students managed to achieve it all by hand. The students positioned the marquetry of the school crest at one of the main entrances to welcome visitors to our school.
The students have learned a huge amount about craft work and they really enjoyed the experience. The class found the whole experience very rewarding.
All of the staff and the students here at Colaiste Phobal are very proud of it and impressed with our work!
