Some of the buildings are located at St Fintan's Healthcare Campus in Portlaoise
The use of vacant HSE buildings in Laois was detailed in a letter published late last year.
Assistant National Director of the HSE Ray Mitchell outlined the use of vacant HSE properties in Laois and Offaly in response to issues raised at a Public Accounts Committee(PAC) in October.
In the letter, which was published on December 29 in 2022, Mr Mitchell pointed out that no properties had been bought and not put into use in Laois or Offaly.
“HSE Capital and Estates, in conjunction with service colleagues, continue to monitor any vacant property on an on-going basis,” he explained.
He said discussions were ongoing about the Old Health Centre in Newtown.
“Building not fit for delivery of contemporary healthcare services. Discussion ongoing with local authority in regards to title of site. Future use to be determined once outcome of discussions with local authority conclude,” the HSE stated in relation to the property.
In Portarlington the Health Centre is being used of storage but options are being examined.
“Under active consideration for future healthcare use. Refurbishment works will be required prior to reoccupation of building,” the HSE stated.
The Mountmellick Health Centre is also being used for storage.
“Will be demolished in the future to allow for development of new Community Nursing Unit once construction of that project commences on site,” stated the HSE.
The Abbatoir, St Fintan's currently used for storage.
“Building is part of an active healthcare campus and cannot be sold. Limited options for use due to condition of building,” the HSE stated.
