6th year students from Portlaoise College took to the mountains recently to examine the beginnings of the River Liffey.
The group went on a field trip to Mt Kippure in the Dublin Wicklow mountains on November23.
The trip was undertaken as part of the Leaving Certificate Geography course.
The students used the skills they learned in the classroom to survey and record the depth and velocity of the River Liffey.
Teachers Patrick Hamm and Helen Spencer accompanied the students.
