A new primary care and day care centre is needed in Monasterevin to cater for the growing population in the area, according to Brian Stanley TD.
“The existing day care centre has been closed by the HSE due to inadequate fire safety standards and the health centre at Cowpasture is too small to provide even basic primary care services,” said the local TD.
“Both of these buildings are on large sites, are owned by the HSE, and could easily be renovated and extended. I believe that the most practical and cost effective solution is to refurbish and extend either one of the facilities to accommodate, not just the health centre, but also the day care centre.”
He said the money raised from the disposal of one of the properties could be used to fund the necessary works.
Deputy Stanley also advised the HSE against entering into Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) with private developers to provide leased or rented facilities while their existing buildings have such potential, as PPPs end up being very expensive in the medium to long term and a drain on the public purse.
