Man was drunk and abusive in Laois

Man remanded on €35,000 Midlands drugs charge

A probation report was ordered for a man who was accused of being drunk and abusive in Laois.

Tyrone O’Connor, 33, of Main Street, Rathdowney was accused of being drunk and abusive at St Patrick’s Terrace in Borris-in-Ossory on April 11, 2022. He is also accused of criminal damage at Slieve Bloom View in Borris-in-Ossory on May 13, 2022.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the defendant was highly intoxicated and falling against cars on Patrick’s Terrace in Borris-in-Ossory on April 11. He said the man had caused damage to a  house when he “kicked a bedroom door” at Slieve Bloom View on May 13 where a rear window was also damaged.

Solicitor Barry Fitzgerald said his client is originally from Limerick. He said he is doing a lot better since the incidents and was sober for the past four months.  Mr Fitzgerald said the man had paid for some of the criminal damage.

“He seems to be on a better path, “ he remarked.

“He would be a man who could potentially flourish with the assistance of the probation services,” he told the court.

Judge Andrew Cody said he would give the man one opportunity and he ordered a probation and welfare report. He adjourned the case until June 8.
