An application has been lodged to amend plans for a major housing development in Portarlington.

McKenzie Developments Ltd applied to Laois County Council to amend previously granted  planning permission for 60 new homes.

The units are a mix of houses and apartments at 106 to 165 The Glen, Kilnacourt Woods in Portarlington.

The original application for the housing in Kilnacourt was granted to McGrane & Partners developers in 2004. It was part of much larger plans for a creche and 261 houses.

The latest proposal seeks permission for 16 houses consisting of six two storey three beds, and 10 two storey two beds together with 44 apartments in two four storey blocks. The apartments are split into 22 two bedroom and 22 one bedroom units.

The application also seeks permission for bin, bicycle storage, car parking and landscaping.

Laois County Council is expected to make a decision on the application in April.
