Laois County Council is planning to close a number of roads in Portlaoise for St Patrick’s Day festivities.

Road closures will be in place in Portlaoise on St Patrick’s Day between 8am and 7pm. Gardai will be out on the streets assisting with the traffic management.

Celebrations will begin in the town when Portlaoise Athletic Club hold their ‘Streets of Portlaoise’ 5km Road Race which begins on Friday, March 17 at 11am.

“Traffic diversions will be in place for the duration of the race. The route of the race can be viewed on the map below. Delays to be expected for the duration,” Laois County Council stated.

The event will be followed by the Portlaoise St. Patrick’s Day Parade starting from County Hall at 12.30pm. Motorists should also expect delays around the route of the parade, so alternative routes should be considered for the duration of the Parade that day.

“An Garda Siochana will be assisting with traffic management on the day so patience is requested so that everyone can enjoy the festivities and be safe,” Laois County Council stated.
