'Very dark' outside Laois pub council told

Public lighting in Louth to be replaced with LED lanterns

Pub is located on a busy road

Council officials will visit Spink with a view to installing improved lighting outside a busy pub after a call from a Laois councillor.

The issue was raised by Cllr John Joe Fennelly at the latest meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District.

The Fianna Fáil councillor asked in a motion "that this Council install a public light outside of Hayden’s public house in Spink as this junction is very dark." The motion was seconded by Cllr Barry Walsh.

In response, Senior Engineer Paul McLoughlin said the council will visit the site and follow up with a proposal.

“The Road Design Section of Laois County Council will review the current lighting provided at this location and make arrangements for the provision of additional/improved lighting at the junction as required,” he said.

“It is very dark there, especially the left hand side of the road as you are going to Carlow,” said Cllr Fennelly.

The pub is located on the busy R430 road.
