Teenage crash victims in Portlaoise hospital after serious St Patrick's Day collision

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following what they describe as a "serious injury road traffic collision" near Monasterevin.

The single-vehicle incident saw four people hospitalised with three admitted to hospital in Laois and a fourth transferred to Dublin in a serious condition.

A Garda statement said the accident happened on Friday night, March 17 at around 10pm at the Rathangan Road, Monastrevin. It said gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of what is said to be a single-car road traffic collision.

The gardaí outlined information on those involved. There ages were not given.

"A male and two females in their late teens were taken to Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise to be treated for their injuries. Another male in his teens has been taken to Tallaght University Hospital to be treated for his injuries which are understood to be serious.

"The road was closed to allow for a technical examination of the scene to be conducted by Forensic Collision Investigators. It has since reopened.

"Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. They are particularly appealing to those with camera footage (including dash-cam) from the area at the time to make it available to them," they said.
