Laois County Council County Hall in Portlaoise.
Signage at pedestrian crossing outside Laois County Council’s headquarters could cause an accident, a councillor has claimed.
Fianna Fail Councillor Catherine Fitzgerald asked “that this Council move the sign at the pedestrian crossing at County Hall” in a motion at a recent meeting.
In response, Senior Executive Engineer, Wes Wilkinson, said “I will make myself available to meet with Councillor Catherine Fitzgerald at this location.”
Cllr Fitzgerald asked that the signage either be raised higher or moved from its location.
“If a small child was behind that sign you cannot see them. The whole sign is on the road literally. Anyone under four foot you cannot see them,” said Cllr Fitzgerald.
“We are lucky nothing has happened. I have asked for this before. A few people have said it to me. They have had near misses there, that they didn’t see people or especially children behind the sign on the grass," she added.
Her motion was seconded by Fine Gael Councillor Willie Aird.
Mr Wilkinson said he could go and take a look at the sign after the meeting.
