Children walking on gravel path after broadband botch job

Path to Laois school left damaged after broadband installation

A path to the main primary school in Abbeyleix has been left with a gravel surface after it was dug up by broadband installers.

Some 100 metres of the footpath at Scoil Mhuire National School, is to be fixed by the installers, as requested by Laois County Council.

Cllr John Joe Fennelly had tabled a motion to the Portlaoise Municipal District asking for urgent repairs on the path on the Ballyroan road.

“I can't understand how they come in and dig up paths for services then put down gravel. It wasn't a fantastic path in the start. I thought they would come back and tar it.

"It is opposite the school. In fairness to residents it needs to be done straight away,” he said.

Cllr Barry Walsh seconded saying the job was urgent.

The area engineer said that the office will liaise with the utilities contractor to arrange the permanent reinstatement of the footpath.
