Council seek to dredge Portlaoise lake

Glendowns Lake

Laois County Council has applied for permission to dredge a man made lake in Portlaoise.

The council applied to An Bord Pleanala for permission to dredge the man made lake at Glendowns.

The council sought permission to carry out the work at the lake late last month.  The lake in Glendowns was created in 1994.

A number of years ago concerns were raised at council level about the condition of the lake in Portlaoise.

The council’s application is for: “Dredging and removal of silt and vegetation from a man-made shallow lake 'Glendowns'.”

The application was accompanied by a Natura Impact Statement(NIS).

An Bord Pleanala is expected to make a decision on the application in October.
