Independent TD Mattie McGrath says posters featuring his image were created and erected in Laois without his knowledge or permission.
The posters, which are visible on some approach roads to Portarlington, feature an image of Deputy McGrath along with the writing ‘Laois Offaly Calling for immigration referendum’.

When contacted in relation to the posters, a spokesperson for the Tipperary TD said:
“We have been made aware of the presence of such posters in County Laois. We only became aware of the posters when they appeared on twitter and someone notified us of them.”
“We are not responsible for erecting the posters and have no knowledge of who erected the posters. They did not seek permission to use Deputy McGrath’s photograph on their posters,” the spokesperson stated.
“We have notified the Laois County Council to inform them that we bear no responsibility for the posters,” they added.
Deputy McGrath has previously called for a referendum on immigration.
Laois County Council did not respond when contacted in relation to the posters.
