Counting votes in Portlaoise

A voter registration drive is underway in Laois with information events to take place in August to help people ensure they have a say in who represents them locally, nationally and in Europe.

As part of Laois County Council's drive to promote the Register of Electors ahead of the 2023 Local Elections, information events are being held around the county.

The local authority says staff from its Corporate Affairs will be in the libraries during August and September to provide assistance to people to check and update their details on the Register.

The following is the proposed schedule of dates:

  • Portlaoise Libary: Thursday, August 10 - 10 am to 12 noon
  • Portarlington Library: Thursday, August 10 - 2.30pm to 4.30pm
  • Mountrath Library: Thursday, August 17 - 10 am to 12 noon
  • Mountmellick Library: Thursday, August 17 - 2.30pm to 4.30pm
  • Rathdowney Library: Thursday, August 24 -  10 am to 12 noon

  • Abbeyleix Library: Friday, September 1 - 10 am to 12 noon
