Portarlington train station to be in the spotlight in Laois talk

Irish Rail's work to conserve Portarlington's busy and historic train station will be the subject of a talk during Heritage Week on an evening when the rescue of another famous building in the Laois Offaly town will be explored.

Join Liam Murphy of Irish Rail for a talk entitled the ‘Conservation of Victorian Buildings at Portarlington Railway Station,’. He will explain their conservation project at Portarlington Railway Station and will illustrate the talk with original plans for the station from 1847.

This will be followed by Ray Simmons’ talk on ‘Saving a Country House: the Restoration of Woodbrook House.’  The owner of Woodbrook House will deliver a presentation on his work in bringing this historic house back from the brink of demolition.

The final talk will be delivered by David Orford on ‘Portarlington’s Forgotten Artist: Walter Chetwood Aiken of Woodbrook House.’  

Light refreshments will be provided after the event and attendees will have an opportunity to the presenters.
