Accused of selling fireworks at the Ploughing

Man remanded on €35,000 Laois drugs charge

Portlaoise District Court

A man appeared in court accused of selling fireworks at the National Ploughing Championships.

Michael Ward, 34, with an address at 30 Palace Crescent, Ard na Cassa, Longford is accused of having fireworks at Gate 20A the Green Car Park, Ratheniska on September 21 last year. He is further charged with having fireworks for sale or supply on September 22, 2022.

Judge Andrew Cody said he would reserve the issue of legal aid given the nature of the charge.

“The charge is effectively that he was selling fireworks,” said Judge Cody.

He adjourned the matter back to Portlaoise District Court on November 2.
