Laois student assumes prestigious role at Irish University

Isobel Tinkler

Following a university-wide recruitment process, Isobel Tinkler from Co Laois, has been appointed Student Ambassador in St Patrick’s Pontifical University, Maynooth (SPPU).

Isobel is a former student of Coláiste Íosagáin, Portarlington.

According to the university, ambassadors are a vital link for incoming students, assisting with orientation activities, providing campus tours and being on hand with advice and recommendations on how best to transition from second level into life at university.

The Student Ambassadors will also assist at university events throughout the year passing on their firsthand experiences of life at St Patrick’s Pontifical University.

On studying at SPPU, Isobel said: “I've always had an interest in Theology, so when the University  came to our school talking about all that SPPU has to offer, it really intrigued me and I knew that was the course for me.  Even though I knew I wanted to do Theology, SPPU offers much more than that. While the main career people normally pursue is teaching, I have met many others who wish to be politicians, prison officers, lecturers and so much more. If one has any interest in the pursuit of knowledge, St Patrick's Pontifical University is the way to go.

“Throughout my time in SPPU, I have always been met by such a lovely atmosphere and a community of people always willing to help one another. Whether it's lecturers, other students or tutors, there is always a friendly smile and encouragement waiting for you,” she added.

St Patrick’s Pontifical University is located in Maynooth, which is unique in being Ireland’s only University town. The town and campus are extensions of each other.

It has proven to be a popular choice for students who enjoy the benefits of having all the amenities they need close at hand without the busyness of a large city, while still being very accessible to Dublin which is only 30 minutes away and served by excellent rail and road links.
