Students from all secondary schools across Laois recently attended a youth event on tackling issues that matter to teenagers in the county.
The Comhairle na nÓg conference - designed to give young people a voice on services, policies and issues affecting them in the county - was held last week (Tuesday November 7) at the Midland Park Hotel.
The annual conference gives Laois teenagers a platform to influence the development of new services and policies but also to work on projects to deal with current issues.
Comhairle na nÓg is for young people aged between 12 to 17 that have no voting mechanism to have their voice heard.
Laois Comhairle na nÓg gets young people's voices heard in two ways:
At this year’s youth conference, attendees chose 'Education' as a topic to work on in 2024, and participated in a workshop on mental health.
Laois Comhairle na nÓg also worked on a topic on discrimination, and a podcast titled ‘If it wasn't for....’ was made (available here).
