Kevin and Maeve Bracken with staff in 2019 when the shop had a €1m win
Lotto HQ has confirmed the Portlaoise shop which has sold the latest big prize to be won in Laois in recent months which as seen prize winnings exceeded €3 m on foot lotto draw and scratch card wins.
The National Lottery has confirmed that Bracken's Gala / Maxol shop on Stradbally Rd in Portlaoise near the town's hospital sold the latest big prize on November 25 when a match 5 player won more than €260,000.
Kevin and Maeve Bracken who run the shop previously sold a winning ticket worth just over €1 million in 2019. This lucky Laois player purchased their winning Quick Pick ticket in their busy shop on the day of the draw. A scratch card player won €100,000 on a scratch card bought in Bracken's Gala in Portarlington in October.
Mr Bracken did not know the identity of the winner of the latest big prize but he hoped the winner or winners enjoy the win.
“We congratulated the winner and hope they have a good Christmas and spend the money wisely,” he said.
The winning numbers in were: 13, 17, 21, 22, 37, 42 and the bonus was 02. Just one more correct number would have seen the Laois player walk away with nearly €6.5 million.
The latest big prize brings to nearly €3 million the money won after winning numbers were picked in Laois. The biggest of these wins was in October when nearly €2.3 million was won by an online player in Laois.
The following are details of recent big wins in Laois over the second half of 2023:
The Lotto previously published a table of the luckiest counties to play the Lotto in over the first 30 years of its existence since it started in 1988. The National Lottery said that when publishing the figures in 2018, players in Laois had been the unluckiest county in Ireland with 1.53 Lotto winners per 10,000 inhabitants despite having 13 Lotto jackpots who had claimed over €24 million since 1988.
As there was no outright winner of last Saturday night's €6,431,246 jackpot, Wednesday’s jackpot is set to roll towards an estimated €6.8 million.
