Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise
Patients have no access to public wifi in Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise, according to a local councillor.
The busy HSE run hospital which serves Laois, Kildare, Carlow, Offaly and North Tipperary, only has internet access for staff, claims Fianna Fáil Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald.
The lack of online service is "absolutely crazy" she said.
She tabled a motion to the January 2024 meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District to ask Laois County Council to request the service.
"I was disappointed to hear there is no wifi in Portlaoise hospital. Of any place, if you're a patient or or visitor it's not there. I am sure they have it for workers. In this day and age it's absolutely crazy.
"I suggest that we go to Antoinette Brennan (Laois County Council Broadband Officer) and ask for this. It's a basic requirement," Cllr Fitzgerald said.
In response, Laois County Council Director of Services Simon Walton said that a letter will be sent to the hospital.
