Illegal dumpers have left rubbish near one of Laois’s leading tourist attractions.

The scenic location was targeted by illegal dumpers last summer when boxes of old broken tiles were discarded by the roadside.

The incident led to calls for a tougher clampdown on illegal dumping throughout Laois

The illegal activity has now returned and rolls of old carpet have been dumped at the tourists hotspot.

Fine Gael Cllr PJ Kelly took to social media to express his disgust at the latest incident.  He posted images of the dumping.

“This is the Church of Ireland Anglican Church beside the car park for the Rock of Dunamase, one of the finest tourist attractions in Co Laois and this is what I found dumped on their grounds beside the public road,” he wrote.

“The leftovers of what possibly looks lovely in someone's home just dumped. I done what those people should have done,  I brought it home and put it in my bins for collection Monday morning. No  shame for those who dump,” said Cllr Kelly.

Cllr Kelly has repeatedly sought action to tackle illegal dumping in Laois.
