Laois council called on to get Eir to move 'hazardous' pole

Colt road being damaged and traffic risk raised

news

The pole is in the way of trucks.

Eir should move a pole in Colt because it results in road damage and creates a traffic hazard.

That’s the view of Cllr Barry Walsh, Fine Gael, who raised the issue at a recent meeting with Laois County Council officials.

He tabled a motion calling on the council to contact Eir regarding a service pole that’s causing a “traffic hazard” at the entrance to a haulage lorry yard in Colt. He wants the council to get the pole removed or re-located.

He said lorries have to swing out onto the road verge to avoid the pole but this is damaging the verge and causing a dip.

He added that the trucks are forced onto the wrong side of the road due to the traffic hazard.

Wes Wilkinson, Senior Engineer for Portlaoise, replied in writing.

“The Portlaoise Municipal District Office will examine the location on the Bog Road, Colt, Ballyroan and will contact EIR and the property owner regarding making arrangements to move the pole at this location as appropriate,” he said.

The issue was raised at the March meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District.
