A ten-year-old Laois girl has started her own business delivering free range eggs after rescuing hens.

Arabella Gorman, from Mountrath, is hoping to take her 'Bells Happy Hens' business to farmers markets around the county.

Speaking to Leinster Express/ Laois Live this week Arabella explained how it all came about.

"My mammy always had hens growing up but we wanted to get some for me so we rescued some. We had lots of eggs then and we couldn’t use them all so my mammy's friends  asked to buy some off me and then we put up our honest box," said Arabella.

"In the morning I collect and wash the eggs and put them in the cartons. I put some in my honest box and then I deliver some with my mammy to people who can’t collect them in my town.

"I am very happy because lots of people come to buy my eggs, neighbours, friends and people from my town. They all have been very kind to me.

"I really enjoy getting up before school and looking after my hens and ducks. I feed them and fill the water pots and their swimming pool. I like talking to people when they call to my house to buy eggs." CONTINUE READING BELOW PHOTO

Laois Offaly Families for Autism (LOFFA) were thrilled when Arabella decided to take part in this year's Rainbow Day on April 26 by donating her egg money to the cause, becoming the youngest businesswoman to get involved in their campaign.

"I like to help people when I can so I decided to donate my egg money to Rainbow Day and I’m really happy so many people donated to it as well and I would like to help more in the future," said Arabella.

Arabella is in third class at Camross National School and when she's not busy with 'Bells Happy Hens' she loves hanging out best friends Ruby and Courtney and looking after her pets, especially her dog Harper.

Speaking about her hopes for 'Bells Happy Hens' in the future Arabella said: " I would love to maybe go to a farmers market to sell my eggs. I think I would like to make some keyings or something like that with my logo as my friends always ask me do I have I any merchandise."

Well done Arabella!
