Laois public reminded Covid-19 spring booster vaccination campaign is underway

People in Laois are being reminded that the HSE's Covid-19 spring booster vaccination campaign is underway.

People aged 80 and over, and people aged 5 and above with a weak immune system are urged to get vaccinated and protect themselves against the virus. 

Dr Mary Ward, Consultant in Public Health Medicine with the Department of Public Health in HSE Dublin and Midlands, said: “We know that people’s immunity from the Covid-19 vaccine weakens over time, especially in older people. However, the Spring booster will help protect them from serious illness and boost their immunity against Covid-19 infection. This is why our Public Health team is strongly urging anyone eligible for the booster vaccine to protect their health by getting vaccinated as soon as possible.”

The following groups are eligible:

age 80 or older
age 5 or older with a weak immune system
older persons living in residential care facilities

People aged 12 and older in the eligible groups can get their booster from participating pharmacies or GPs. There are dedicated HSE clinics for children aged under 12 years. Anyone living in a long-term care facility will be offered their booster where they are living.

People who are aged 70 to 79 may also request a vaccine, following a discussion with their healthcare provider.
