Diggers on-site on Thursday, May 16.
Diggers are now on-site for the long awaited new school building for Kolbe Special School in Portlaoise.
On Thursday, May 16 building work began on the project.
“The long wait to see the diggers on-site for our new school build is over. Today the building started with the diggers arrival and everyone in Kolbe is super excited. Our new school building has officially started!" the school shared on social media.
“We will keep you posted on progress as we go along. This is a great day for everyone in our school community but especially our pupils and staff. Thank you to everyone who has been behind us and supporting us we greatly appreciate everything no matter how big or small that you have done for us.”
The Kolbe School says it specifically caters for children (age 4-18) within the severe to profound learning disability spectrum and/or autism. There are 41 pupils in the school at present. It has been a full 24 years since a new purpose built school was first promised.
