A fire brigade recruitment poster in Rathdowney will be relocated following complaints from locals.

The sign, located near Supervalu in Rathdowney, has been labeled "a dangerous accident waiting to happen".

It currently blocks the view of oncoming traffic when turning right towards main street, or turning left up the Johnstown road.

A Rathdowney resident posted their concerns on the Rathdowney Community Noticeboard and received an overwhelming response of similar opinions.

"Is it just me or does anyone else that drives in Rathdowney town, find that the fire Brigade recruitment poster at SuperValu creates a blind spot, when turning right back towards the main street or turning left up the Johnstown road?
Now see I have been driving quite a few years with no accidents or convictions and that the people in charge believe that if I took it at the correct angle I would have no problem turning out ... so yes I have tried it from a few different angles, it's still a blind spot.
So while just a suggestion, it needs to be moved in slightly does any one else agree ?? Maybe use this platform as a little petition to have it moved a like or comment will help."
The post received almost 150 likes and over 40 comments. The responses were all of a similar vein:
"I completely agree with you, a few days ago I almost crashed my car because we have no vision and we have to invade the main road so we can see if anyone is coming, we could put that banner between two trees going down the street. If that banner stays there we will soon have accidents."

"Definitely agree, had one or two near misses coming out from Supervalu."
"Yes I agree it is the nose of the car is nearly out on the main road before u can have a full view".
"I have spoken to the Fire Station Chief. They had planned to move the banner to another part of town this week, so all good, it will be going to different parts of the town for another few weeks, and while I have your attention, they are actively looking for men and women to sign up, they would love to hear from anyone who is interested or wants to know more about a career in the service. It is a paid position. All's well that ends well."
Following these complaints, Cllr John King posted in the Rathdowney Community Noticeboard;
"I wish to confirm following conversation with Shusha Kileen Fire chief of Rathdowney Fire station that the sign on the railing close to SuperValu will be moved to a new destination week.
As a former fire member I would encourage people in this town to join the local fire brigade and bring up the numbers to twelve which is needed in order to have a rota system in place for the crew to have one week on and one off."
