The carer’s support grant will be paid to 2,550 carers in Laois on Thursday, June 6, Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys has confirmed.
The grant of €1,850, will be issued directly to people’s bank accounts or post office. It is available to all carers providing full-time care to an older person or a person with a disability, regardless of their means or social insurance contributions.
Welcoming the funding Sean Fleming TD, Minister of State said: "The Carer’s Support Grant is paid automatically to all recipients of Carer’s Allowance, Carer’s Benefit, or Domiciliary Care Allowance. It is also available to other full-time carers who are not receiving any of these payments.
"The Carer’s Support Grant is paid in respect of each person being cared for. This is good news for the carers in Laois who play a vital role in taking care of our older people and vulnerable people.
"Caring for a loved one can be rewarding, but it can also be difficult. I welcome this Government grant for Laois carers which will give additional support to our carers, to continue the invaluable work they do."
