Abbeyleix Tidy Towns have announced a partnership with University College Dublin for a unique Tree Plan project.
The public are invited to learn more about the project at a 'Talk about Trees' event in Heritage House during Heritage this August.
Abbeyleix Tidy Town Chairperson Robbie Quinn welcomed the new and unique Tree Plan currently in development between the Tidy Town's Committee and UCD's landscape artist Sophia Meeres.
"The talk should give an overview and insights into this project," said Mr Quinn.
"Everyone is invited to attend the talk and learn about the ongoing efforts to preserve and enhance our town’s natural beauty, ensuring that our rich tree heritage is protected and developed for future generations," he said.
"Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a curious learner, or just looking to find out more about what out tree plan, this event is for you. Don't miss this opportunity to connect with our community and the trees that make Abbeyleix special.
"We're known for being a heritage town, but we were a woodland town first," said Mr Quinn.
"We are delighted to have professionals from UCD coming down to assess our tree coverage, and how it can be improved."
The assessment is expected to take place this winter, which will result in the division of an 'opportunity map' for appropriate opportunities for new planting.
Abbeyleix Tidy Towns have planted over 17,000 trees in the last four years.
'Talk about Trees' will be held during Heritage week on Monday August 19 from 7pm to 9pm.
