Almost 2,000 properties were left without power when a car hit a pole in Laois

The incident occured in Abbeyleix last week and left most of the town without power

Most of Abbeyleix was left without electricity when a car hit a pole last Friday afternoon. 

ESB Networks, who were quick to repair the fault, confirmed the cause of the power outage which impacted 1,960 electricity users in Abbeyleix. 

“ESB Networks can confirm that this outage was caused by third party contact with the network. A car collided with one of our poles, which knocked out the entire circuit feeding most of Abbeyleix,” a ESB Networks spokesperson said. 

“Crews responded promptly to make the area safe and restore power to customers. We apologise for the inconvenience caused,” the spokesperson said.

The power outage occurred at about 5.30pm on Friday and was repaired just over an hour later.
