The Mountrath Town Team
Mountrath Town Team have secured over €315,000 in funding to improve and regenerate the town.
Having worked with Laois County Council Town Regeneration Officer, Denise Rainey, to secure the funds, the team are encouraging local people to have their say and take part in their upcoming consultation events.
In the past 12 months, in collaboration with Laois County Council, they have sourced the funding for a range of projects which aim to transform and regenerate and improve Mountrath.
The largest sum secured by the team was €250,0000 under the Town & Village Renewal Scheme which will see improvements to the Town Square, enhanced public lighting in the town centre, improved landscaping and signage along the River Walk and Patrick Street and enhancements to the Farmers Market.
A further €50,000 was secured under the Town & Village Project Development Measure to re-design the Town Square and €6,800 has been allocated under the Community Climate Action Fund for the provision of a bicycle repair station, rack and shelter in the centre of Mountrath.
Meanwhile, a total of €10,000 in funding was awarded by the Irish Architecture Foundation Re-Imagine Project. This funding will be used for a design project to explore ways to enhance the White Horse River as an amenity in the town.
Chairman of Mountrath Town Team, Mark Sheeran is determined to follow through on the plans for Mountrath.
“We are committed to implementing these schemes over the course of the next year. People living and visiting Mountrath will start to see real improvements in our town centre," he explained.
”Anyone who wants more information on any of the above, should contact Denise Rainey Town Regeneration officer with Laois County Council by emailing drainey@laoiscoco.ie.
Consultation Clinics will be held in Mountrath over the course of the next year to get your feedback and input into the above schemes.
The Town Team welcomes your opinions and would love to hear from residents, businesses, community groups and people who visit Mountrath." said Mark.

Ms Rainey said that while the exact dates of the consultation clinics have yet to be confirmed, the consultation will likely take place next month for the Re-Imagine Project . She said the consultation for the redesign of Town Square won't take place until 2025.
