Laois homeless figures remain unchanged

24 individuals were recorded as homeless in Laois last month.

There were 24 people recorded as homeless in Laois in August, according to the latest figures from the Department of Housing. 
The number of people availing of emergency accommodation from the local authority during the week of August 19 to 25 remained unchanged from July's figures. 
Across the midlands there were 33 families in local authority emergency accommodation. This included 39 adults and 48 children. 
There were 152 adults availing of emergency accommodation across the midlands during the week recorded in August. The majority were aged between 25 to 44 (76). There were 52 people aged between 45 and 64 and there were two people aged over 65 homeless in the region. 
Nationally the number of people living in emergency accommodation reached a record 14,486 in August. The figures released on Friday show 10,067 adults and 4,419 children were accessing emergency accommodation during the last week of August.
The figures do not include people sleeping rough, those that may be couch surfing or homeless in hospitals or prisons, or those who are in a shelter for asylum seekers, or domestic violence centres.
