Laois had the least number of jobs in IDA sponsored companies across the country at the end of 2023.
Figures revealed in the Dail showed Laois has just 155 of the 300,583 jobs in IDA supported companies nationally. The figures show Laois has five IDA sponsored companies.
Laois came bottom of the table nationally with 155 jobs but neighbouring Co Offaly fared better with 1,385 jobs across 11 companies and Carlow had 1,440 across four companies. In Kildare, some 11,909 jobs come from the 45 IDA sponsored companies.
The information was revealed in a response to a parliamentary question by Wicklow Sinn Fein TD, John Brady.
Deputy Brady asked the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Peter Burke, for the number of IDA sponsored companies per county; and the number of jobs in IDA sponsored companies per county.
In a written response delivered on Tuesday, October 8, Minister Burke said “the IDA has over 1,800 client companies within its portfolio employing 300,583 as at the end of 2023. Additionally, my Department estimates that for every 10 jobs generated by FDI directly, another eight are created in the wider economy.”
The details of the number of IDA client companies and IDA-supported jobs for each county at the end of 2023 were presented by Minister Burke. See images below for details.
