Call to restrict parking at The Heath in Laois

Laois County Council will examine the possibility of restricting car parking at the Treacy’s in the Heath.

Fianna Fáíl Cllr Paschal McEvoy requested the measure in a motion asking “that this Council install bollards at Treacy’s, The Heath to stop parking,”

He explained that the measure was needed at the bottom carpark to prevent cars parking close to the road and blocking visibility.

“Out at the bottom carpark lorries tend to park on the right hand side of the road as you are coming from Portlaoise. You have to go out really far to see what is coming,” said Cllr McEvoy.

“A few bollards and people wouldn’t be able to park there,” he explained.

Senior Executive Engineer Philip McVeigh said “Laois County Council will inspect this location and carry out a safety audit of this proposal.”

The issue was discussed during the latest meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.
