Laois Sawmills seeks permission for solar farm on outskirts of Portlaoise

Plans are being lodged for a two hectare solar farm on the outskirts of Portlaoise. 

Laois Sawmills Ltd has announced its intention to apply for the solar farm off the Stradbally Road at Ballymacken. 

If approved by Laois County Council, the solar panels will cover an area of two hectares, almost five acres, near the Sawmills in Ballymacken.  

“Laois Sawmills Ltd intend to apply for Permission for the construction, operation and decommissioning of a photovoltaic solar farm over an area of 2 hectares comprising of photovoltaic panels on ground mounted frames, a switch room building, Perimeter fencing, hardcore access tracks with underground ducting routes, landscaping, new site entrance and access road to solar farm and existing sawmill facility, surface water drainage with underground attenuation tank, revision of existing site boundaries along with all associated ancillary development works at Ballymacken, Portlaoise, Co Laois,” the 

The planning application will be accompanied by a Natura Impact Statement(NIS) and the plans will be available for inspection at the offices of Laois County Council.
