Thousand of learner Laois drivers should expect at least a five month wait for their driving test.

Over 68k learner drivers across the country are waiting at least seven months for a test according to latest data from Road Safety Authority (RSA).

According to the RSA, Laois drivers looking to test in the Maldron Hotel in Portlaoise can expect as of today to do their test on the week commencing of June, 16.

The amount of learner drivers awaiting a test has slightly decreased since last year which saw a total of 68,314 compared to 68,177 this year.

A spokesperson for RSA told The Irish Times, "The high demand for driving tests was a continuing trend, with the number of applications received last year 10 percent higher than in 2023, largely due to population increase."
