Cyclist hospitalised after collision with car in Laois

Gardaí are appealing for information following the incident in Portlaoise

A cyclist was taken to hospital following a collision between a car and a bicycle in Laois yesterday evening.

The male cyclist, who is 60 years old, was treated at the roadside before being taken to the Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise with a suspected broken hip. 

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses, CCTV or dashcam footage of the incident that occurred at the roundabout at Market Square, Portlaoise at around 7pm. 

“It happened at about 7 yesterday(Thursday) at Market Square between a car and a cyclist,” gardaí said. 

"The cyclist had a suspected fractured hip and had to be bought to hospital,” gardaí in Portlaoise said. 

A video of the immediate aftermath shows a man being attended to on the ground near a bicycle. A stopped car is also visible at the roundabout and the area is cordoned off by garda vehicles. 

Gardaí are asking for witnesses and anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage of the incident to contact them at Portlaoise Garda Station on 057 867 4100.
