Laois grandmother sells colourful Easter chicks in honour of her grandson

Mary Carthy has started selling her chicks at Mountrath Community School

Local Laois grandmother Mary Carthy has knitted colourful chicks for Mountrath Community School to raise money for the new ASD classrooms, where her grandson attends.

Mountrath Community School thanks Mary Carthy for her hard work and generosity as she has already dedicated roughly 450 hours to the project this year.

Mary's grandson is a first-year student in one of the school’s new ASD classrooms, and Mary has crafted in honour of him since he was in preschool.

Mary has hand-knitted 600 Easter chicks, each holding a Crème Egg, and is selling them within the school for 2 euro each.

She carefully selects the wool herself, choosing colours to suit all tastes, with each chick taking about 40 minutes to complete.
