A Laois woman who attended a Mothers Against Genocide vigil in Dublin says she would like to meet with the two Laois government TDs.
Ger Dillon travelled to Dublin with two other members of the Laois Palestine Solidarity Campaign to attend the Mother’s Day vigil, which was held in solidarity with mothers and children who have been killed in Gaza.
Ms Dillon said a number of attendees at the event remained afterwards intending to present a letter to members of the Dail the next day. That gathering was forcibly removed from the gates of Leinster House by gardai the following morning and 11 people were arrested.
“My main takeaway from the vigil was that it was a really peaceful event,” the Portlaoise resident said.
Ms Dillion said members of the Laois Palestine Solidarity Campaign weren’t present at the time of the arrests and had left after the vigil. She said the group has met a number of times with Independent TD Brian Stanley and had reached out to the two other Laois TDs, Fianna Fail’s Sean Fleming and Fine Gael TD Willie Aird.
“We would like to extend an invitation again to Sean Fleming and Willie Aird to meet with us,” she said.
Ms Dillon said the women who remained on after the vigil had only wanted to deliver a letter to members of the Dáil.

She said the government had given pre-election commitments in relation to the Occupied Territories Bill and the government TDs should “deliver on the promises” that they had made.
