Improvements are needed on a road leading to the Rock of Dunamase, a councillor has said.

Fine Gael Cllr Vivienne Phelan asked in a motion: “That Laois County Council complete road improvement works on the L7830 at  Ballycarroll; including road surface improvements, provision of passing bays and road safety works at an open drain”.

In response, Area Engineer Tom Drennan, said “Laois County Council will review and carry out an assessment of this road in the context of the matter raised and can provide an update to the elected member when completed.”

Cllr Phelan said the road was one of three routes up  to the Rock of Dunamase where a new car park is being built.

“That particular rout at Ballycarroll is going to be signaled with new signage,” said Cllr Phelan. She said the road was in poor condition and wouldn’t be able for any more traffic in its current state.

“There was an accident there around the time of Electric Picnic,” said Cllr Phelan.

Her motion was seconded by Independent Cllr Ben Brennan during the monthly meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.
