Laois housing estate 'prioritised' for urgent repair works

Laois housing estate 'prioritised' for urgent repair works

A Laois County Councillor has requested the urgent repairs of roads in a Laois housing estate.

Fianna Fáíl Councillor and Cathaoirleach of the electoral area, Cllr Seamus McDonald, requested that Laois County Council carry out urgent road repairs at Goodwin Estate, Rosenallis.

"This is my second time to table a motion in connection with these serious road issues," Cllr McDonald said.

"We had great works done a couple of years ago where we had a new sewerage system put in place, unfortunately the road was never resurfaced," he said.

In February of 2023, works were undertaken to connect houses in Rosenallis to a sewage system.

Councillors were previously told that residents would have to foot some of the cost. However, they were also told that a grant of up to 75% of the overall cost, subject to a maximum of €6,750 per house would be available to fund the scheme.

Mr Rory O'Callaghan, Senior Executive Engineer with Laois County Council, replied that the Council will undertake these road repair works.

"A costing is being prepared for the resurfacing of this estate road," he said.

"The Area Office has prioritised this roadway for resurfacing works."

Cllr McDonald welcomed this as good news.

The motion was seconded by fellow Fianna Fáil Cllr Paddy Bracken, who then questioned whether there was funding in place for said works.

"At the moment, no, but we are making some savings on some of our other projects," Mr O'Callaghan said.
