Laois County Council asked to take estate in charge

Crosskeys Court, Crettyard

A Laois Councillor called for an estate to be taken in charge by the Council.

Independent Cllr Ben Brennan asked in a motion: “That Laois County Council take in charge Crosskeys Court estate in Crettyard.”

In a written response, Senior Executive Officer at Planning,  Eamon Cahill, said: "The responsibility for upkeep and maintenance for the Crosskeys Court, Crettyard housing estate rests with the developer until such time as the estate is taken in charge by the Local Authority.”

He said a number of forms needed to be lodged with Laois County Council before the process can begin.

“Once the necessary administrative requirements are received via the online portal, the Local Authority will undertake its assessment protocol and thereafter advertise the estate for Taking in Charge as per the taking in charge policy,” Mr Cahill explained.

Cllr Brennan described the contractor as “an excellent developer” who he said would be willing to work on the process.

Fianna Fail Cllr Padraig Fleming seconded the motion. “It is a lovely estate,” he remarked.
