Rising Laois singer-songwriter, Just Alice, who was singled out for praise by festival promoter Melvin Benn at last year’s Electric Picnic, is due to release a new single this Friday, June 13.

The dazzling, Americana-rooted single, ‘good thing’, is being released by the 23-year-old via Youngblood Music.  A hybrid of early Taylor Swift and Noah Kahn,  it’s a tongue-in-cheek track delivered with sweet Southern-twanged vocals, parceled with some Irish flair.

Alice Laffan grew up immersed in Ireland’s rich musical landscape, her roots stemming from Irish traditional Irish music and the storytelling of legendary artists like Luke Kelly and Dougie MacLean.  Seamlessly blending the influences from her youth with the modern emotional clarity of Joni Mitchell and Noah Kahan, Just Alice beautifully channels music of the people and music of home, no matter where home is for her listeners.

Debuting only last year with her single, “Wait”, Just Alice (Alice Laffan) has already performed  across a range of live settings, from cozy Irish pub gigs to Electric Picnic, and international appearances at the Maryland Irish Festival and An Poitin Stil in the U.S - her growing fanbase drawn to her authenticity, lyrical honesty, and emotive voice.

“I wrote this song before I ever knew what it was about. The meaning came to me after I stopped holding my breath and realised that, although we may not believe it at the time, a difficult choice can be a good thing,” Alice says of her new single.

Just Alice continues to carve out a space all of her own — one built on vulnerability, storytelling, and a deep connection to her roots.
