Ballickmoyler Village
Measures are needed to slow traffic at a location in Ballickmoyler Village, a meeting was told.
Fianna Fail Cllr Padraig Fleming asked in a motion “that Laois County Council install additional signage/ slow signs and road markings from Ballickmoyler Village to Coolnock on the R429.”
Cllr Fleming said a number of people had contacted him in relation to speeding at the village. “The speed really is fairly significant” on the stretch of road and the road is relatively narrow, he said.
Independent Cllr Aisling Moran seconded the motion and said “the hedges on that road are brutal” before asking if it was possible to extend a speed zone out from the village.
“You have a football pitch, you have kids cycling up and down to it coming from both directions,” she remarked.
In response to the motion, Senior Executive Engineer Tom Drennan said, “Laois County Council will review all regulatory signage along with its line marking condition at this junction and will schedule any necessary interventions required subject to available resources.”
The issue was discussed during the monthly meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.
