Portlaoise GAA extends sympathies to the late mother of Ricky Maher pictured here in action for Portlaoise.
Portlaoise GAA club has had its opening game in the Laois Senior Football Championship following the death of the mother of one of Portlaoise's best know players Ricky Maher.
The death has occurred of Terri Maher (née Barry), Rockmount, Drimoleague, Cork /Stradbally, Co Laois, on July 22 peacefully after an illness bravely borne, surrounded by her loving family of Clonakilty Community Hospital.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with our clubman and senior footballer Ricky Maher on the sad passing of his mam yesterday.
Condolences also to all of Ricky’s family and extended family at this sad time. May Terri Rest in Eternal Peace," said the club.
As mark of respect, Laois GAA postoned the Round 1 Laois SFC game between Portlaoise and O’Dempsey’s GAA which was due to take place on Thursday, July 24 in Laois Hire O'Moore Park.
The match has been rescheduled and will now take place on Saturday at 7 pm in Ratheniska.
Mrs Maher was predeceased by her parents John and Mary, sister Stephanie and her beloved son Kenneth with whom she is now reunited.
Her death notice said that she will will be forever loved and missed by her children Michael, Neil, Ciara, Richard and Emma. She is also deeply missed by her brother Martin, sister Marion, her fourteen cherished grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, extended family and her dearest friends Michael and Kathleen.
Reposal at Daly’s Funeral Home, Chapel Street, Drimoleague on Thursday, July 24 from 7pm to 8pm followed by prayers. Requiem Mass on Friday, July 25 at 12 noon in All Saints Church, Drimoleague.
