Gardai are appealing to motorists to ‘stay away from Stradbally’ as traffic is extremely heavy this morning.

They described the traffic from the Electric Picnic as heavily congested at present and they have asked people not to drive to the venue to collect people.

“For pick up try to use the bus service to get to Portlaoise,” gardaí said.

“The advice would be to stay away from Stradbally. Anyone arranging a collection, organise the collection from Portlaoise,” they stated.

Gardaí said there is a regular bus service traveling from the festival to Portlaoise and people are being advised to use this and arrange collection in Portlaoise.

They said the traffic congestion is very heavy in and around Stradbally. They urged motorists not to consider traveling to Stradbally until “well after 3pm” today.

A 30km section of the N80 between Portlaoise between Simmonsmill will remain closed between 10am and 4pm today as part of the Electric Picnic traffic plan.

Gardaí have urged people not to rely on Sat Navs as they will not be aware of these temporary diversions.

“Please follow official signage and the directions of Gardaí  to ensure safe and efficient traffic flow,” they said.
